Book Presentation with Dr. Andreas Röpcke
In a lecture at the Schleswig-Holstein-Haus in Schwerin, former State Archivist Dr. Andreas Röpcke will present his latest publication: “Mecklenburg’s First Renaissance Prince: Duke Heinrich the Peaceful and His Family.”
It has just been published in the Mecklenburg Foundation’s series.
Heinrich V ruled the state during turbulent times, from 1503 to 1552—for nearly fifty years. Even during his lifetime, he was given the epithet “the Peaceful.” What a beautiful princely virtue: maintaining peace, making peace.
Andreas Röpcke presents Henry V as a Renaissance prince, with a delight—typical of his time—in the artistic representation of himself and the Mecklenburg princely dynasty.
A look at his family—his wives, children, and grandchildren—reveals Heinrich as a family man and, at the same time, highlights the connections between the princely houses through marital ties.
