The lecture in the Kursaal of the Haus des Gastes in Kirchdorf not only offers insights into an often overlooked region of Europe, but also charming anecdotes from a traveler who knows how to turn everyday moments into little stories.
The Poel Island Library invites you to a special evening on Wednesday, 26.11.2025 at 19:00: Uwe Hein, a retired firefighter from Berlin and a convinced Wismar resident by choice with a big heart for the island of Poel, will take his audience on a journey that is as exciting as it is surprising. Together with his trusty bike "Rosinante", he has set out to discover a country that many have heard of - but hardly anyone can really find on the map: Moldova.
Hein, whose curiosity has been reliably sparked since his youth as soon as a road takes a promising bend, realized that there was exactly one person in his circle who had travelled to Moldova during the Soviet era. So it was time to listen carefully, make a rough plan, lock the door to his apartment in Wismar - and off he went. The Carpathians? "Not the Himalayas," says Hein. Bears? "Well... Romania is big." With humor, openness and a sense of adventure, he talks about routes, encounters and moments that you only experience when you travel really slowly - namely by bike.
The lecture in the Kursaal of the Haus des Gastes in Kirchdorf not only offers insights into an often overlooked region of Europe, but also charming anecdotes from a traveler who knows how to turn everyday moments into little stories.
The event is free of charge; donations for the benefit of the "Wünschewagen" are very welcome.
All interested parties are cordially invited!
