The Association of Friends of Schwerin Castle (Verein der Freunde des Schweriner Schlosses e.V.) invites you to a lecture on Crown Princess Cecilie of Prussia in the Demmler Hall at Schwerin Castle.
Cecilie of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (1886–1954) was the daughter of a duke from Schwerin and became Crown Princess of the German Empire through her marriage to Wilhelm, the heir to the Prussian throne. The lecture traces her life’s journey from her time at the imperial court through the end of the monarchy in 1918 to her escape from the Red Army in 1945 and into the postwar period.
Speaker Jörg Kirschstein of the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg is a renowned expert on the history of the Prussian royal house. He will discuss Cecilie’s role at court, her reaction to the collapse of the German Empire, and her response to the social upheavals between the world wars and in the postwar period. The lecture thus offers a personal perspective on the political changes from the German Empire to the Federal Republic and sheds light on the historical connection between Mecklenburg and Prussia.
