Germany's only lacrosse tournament on the beach turns 10 during the 88th Warnmünder Woche! And even though balls and beach shells fly away again, the atmosphere remains sunny and the game rough.
Lacrosse in the sand of Warnemünde is a unique variant of the sport in Europe, which enjoys great popularity in the lacrosse community and offers a real spectacle.
Lacrosse is often described by its players as the fastest sport on two legs. The aim is to use net sticks to propel a hard rubber ball into the opponent's goal, as long as the opponent's body doesn't stop you from doing so. This makes lacrosse an intense sport that combines speed, precision and team spirit.
The weight of the balls, coupled with the speed (between 100 km/h and 145 km/h), as well as the aforementioned physical exertion, require protective equipment for the players. A distinction is made between men's and women's lacrosse. While the women reduce physical contact somewhat, they require less equipment, but can shine with their tactics and skill. The men, on the other hand, are required to wear helmets, mouthguards, intimate protection and gloves to protect themselves from bodychecks and the striking sticks of their opponents and to defend the ball.
Both women's lacrosse and men's lacrosse will be on full display in the Strand-Arena on July 11 and 12 as part of the 88th Warnemünde Week, when women's and men's teams from all over Germany play for the coveted medals.
As we are entering the tenth round of the tournament in 2026, it will be a very special year for us, which we will celebrate with many small games away from the official events. Come long, take part. Ask us how it works and you won't be able to get rid of us. Take a seat on the grandstand or in the sand and enjoy the games. But duck when it says "Heads up!" Because at that very moment, a ball is on a journey it shouldn't have taken.
