“So, what do you say—are you going to join our family?”
Laura in *Laura Was Here*
For Laura, one thing is clear: enough is enough. She’s six years old, and even though she knows for sure that she didn’t leave the basement door open, Mom scolds her. Instead of comfort, she gets a scolding. And that stupid janitor always thinks he’s right anyway! When everything goes wrong at home, you just have to head out and seek your fortune elsewhere. So she grabs her bike and sets off into the big, wide world. Her first destination? Her own apartment building. And there, behind every apartment door, a new adventure awaits, with ever-changing, unusual life stories and different family models. Because, what is “family” anyway? And what does it have to be like? Big or small? Noisy? Or perfect, like in the commercials? And who decides that in the first place? Full of curiosity, Laura cycles from door to door and discovers that family can look very different—and much more colorful—than she thinks. And maybe you can even put your own family together.
A play for children and their families that focuses on togetherness and diversity and encourages everyone to find their own place in the (family) world.
