Germany 2026, Director: Fabienne Engel, Screenplay: Fabienne Engel, Wiebke Lühmann, Runtime: 86 minutes
Starring Wiebke Lühmann
Wiebke Lühmann is an adventurer and bicycle traveler who has been traveling the world since her first major bicycle trip through South America in 2019. With *Same Sun*, her longest journey to date is brought to the big screen: from Freiburg to the Cape of Good Hope. Director Fabienne Engel has been friends with Wiebke Lühmann since her youth and documented various stages of the journey with her camera. Combined with additional footage she shot herself, this new feature film was created from a total of approximately 105 hours of footage. The focus is not on the athletic achievement. Instead, *Same Sun* is interested in the people and stories along the way—and in the personal transformations that occur when one embarks on such a long journey into the unknown.
Fabienne Engel is a photographer, filmmaker, and creative concept developer. She has been accompanying Wiebke Lühmann for many years and previously collaborated with her on the short film “On Her Own.” For *Same Sun*, she directed the film and was there with the camera herself during several stages of the journey.
After the film, we’ll offer cyclists in the audience the opportunity to share stories about their own tours and engage in conversation with one another.
