British cult band at the Kornhaus in Doberan
The British band Latin Quarter rose to fame in the 1980s with hits such as “Radio Africa,” “New Millionaires,” and “America for Beginners,” and gained many fans in both parts of Germany. They performed at the “Rock for Peace” festival in East Berlin in 1987 and followed that up with five concerts in what was then the GDR. On German Unity Day, Latin Quarter will perform as an acoustic quartet at the Doberan Kornhaus.
Latin Quarter has never rested on its past successes but has always sought out new challenges. So it’s hardly surprising that the band has been more productive than ever since German reunification in 2012. Over the past 13 years, they have produced eight studio albums and one live album, and will release their next one in September 2026, shortly before this concert.
In 2024, longtime members Steve Skaith, Steve Jeffries, and Mary Carewe joined forces with cellist Anna Carewe to form an acoustic quartet. This lineup was originally planned as a one-time project, but the response to the album “I Together” and their live performances was so positive that the band decided to continue as the Latin Quarter Quartet. The recipe for success has remained the same: the combination of melodic sounds with socially critical lyrics. The new acoustic lineup, however, adds a touch of timelessness to the mix.
Admission is €20; €10 for high school students, college students, and people with severe disabilities.
