Arum dem Fayer - Klezmer, Yiddish songs, stories
Dancing and thought-provoking music about life stages and festivals from a Jewish background and its surroundings. The Schicksen-typical mixture of different centuries, traditional and newer klezmer music and Yiddish songs. The Jewish musicians, the klezmorim, created a unique, eloquent instrumental style with a variety of jubilant and sighing tones full of longing, sadness, but also humor and joie de vivre.
The Klezmerschicksen present a mixture of original and more recent klezmer music and songs from different centuries. In addition to traditional klezmer music, they play their own compositions as well as Yiddish and Hebrew songs.
Jewish musicians, the klezmorim, created a unique speaking instrumental style in Eastern Europe in the 16th century with a variety of jubilant and sighing tones full of longing, sadness, but also humor and joie de vivre. In medieval Europe, groups of itinerant Jewish musicians wandered from town to town, playing at Jewish festivals and special occasions and thus popularizing klezmer as festive music.
Klezmer refers to the style of music but also to the musician who makes this music. A "shiksa" is a non-Jewish woman: the maid who cooks on the Sabbath, the neighbor, but also possibly the mistress.
Angelika Hykel, Brigitte Ruddigkeit and Sabine Schmidt have been lovers of klezmer music together since 1999 and have been giving "concerts of a special kind" as DIE KLEZMERSCHICKSEN (Magdeburger Volksstimme) ever since.
