A headstrong old lady, a care robot, and the surprising realization that closeness sometimes develops in ways quite different from what one might expect.
Literary Adaptation
Germany 2026, Written and Directed by Doris Dörrie, 108 minutes, Rated FSK 12
Starring: Angela Winkler, Laura Tonke, Josef Ellers, and others
Ms. Winkler is eighty, seriously ill, and lives alone. Her daughter Emi takes care of her, but when Emi accepts a theater engagement, providing care becomes a problem. There isn’t enough money for a nursing home. So a robot moves in to bring her medication, organize her daily routine, and keep her company. Ms. Winkler is anything but thrilled. But Pawlowitsch—as she soon calls him—proves to be a patient conversationalist. With his knowledge of theater and literature, he stirs up memories and a zest for life that seemed long buried.
