Mascha Kaléko is one of those voices in German-language literature whose clarity and quiet depth still resonate today. Her poems are snapshots full of observation of the world, subtle irony and a melancholy that never becomes sentimental. Between the Weimar Republic, exile and inner emigration, she wrote against silencing - with language that is both simple and unmistakable.

This evening focuses on the work of this extraordinary poet. Judith Jakob, actress and singer, will read from poems and letters that make Kaléko's life and thoughts comprehensible without exaggerating them. Pianist Joachim Jezewski will accompany the reading musically - discreetly but effectively.

The event is aimed at a literary audience that is just as interested in biographical depth as it is in linguistic precision. It is not about a culture of remembrance in the museum sense, but about a lively re-reading - and re-listening - to a poet whose language still has something to say in the 21st century.
