The SIGNUM saxophone quartet is everything - except ordinary:
Four outstanding saxophonists who have known each other since their student days and have been reinventing themselves ever since. Musical border crossers whose deep devotion to the classical string quartet sound goes hand in hand with great enthusiasm for the rock classics of our time. And an incomparable charisma that puts the icing on the cake of the impressive, virtuoso skills of Blaž Kemperle, Jacopo Taddei, Alan Lužar and David Brand.
From the very first second of their performances, these exceptional musicians ignite a musical firework display full of emotion - characterized by an insatiable curiosity for stylistic borderline experiences and the unwavering search for the perfect ensemble sound. Whether original compositions for saxophone quartet, arrangements of orchestral works, baroque compositions or rock music - SIGNUM's unwavering love of music spans almost all eras and genres. This masterful joy of playing can hardly be explained. You have to experience it.
Winner of prizes at international competitions, the young SIGNUM saxophone quartet made its debut at New York's Carnegie Hall in 2013 and soon built on its success: As "Rising Stars" of the European Concert Hall Organization (ECHO), the SIGNUMs made the step up to the biggest stages in Europe in 2014/15, where they have now been at home for years.
The SIGNUM saxophone quartet is regularly the talk of the town, not only for its quartet concerts but also for its collaborations with fellow musicians. With star violinist Daniel Hope, for example, the four not only appeared together in front of the TV camera for the arte format "Hope@Home", but also made several stage appearances together. In 2024, the SIGNUMs also performed on stage together with Fazil Say.
In the following season, the SIGNUMs can look forward to various orchestral concerts, including "Eismeer" by Christian Jost with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, the Concerto Grosso by William Bolcom with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra and a Piazzolla Tango Suite with orchestras in Izmir and Istanbul.
A highlight of the season will be an extended tour of Australia with singer Ali McGregor - musically, they will be moving between the 1920s and 40s, between Berlin and Broadway. At the end of the season, the SIGNUMS will finally return to Korea, including to the Seoul Art Center.
Another project close to the formation's heart is the family concert program "SIGNUM4kids", with which the SIGNUM saxophone quartet is aimed specifically at young music lovers and the audience of tomorrow.
The SIGNUM saxophone quartet has already released several albums. Its first recording, "Echoes", was released on the Deutsche Grammophon label in 2021. The ensemble presented its new album in 2024: "Chameleon" (Berlin Classics).
