On this special day, visitors can experience free guided tours and interactive stations, including for children, on the diversity of nature between 2-5pm and 7-10pm.
On October 25, 2025, the Zoological Collection of the University of Rostock is hosting an open day to celebrate its 250th anniversary. Between 2 and 5 pm and 7 and 10 pm, guests can visit the collection free of charge. A varied program offers many opportunities to discover, participate and be amazed.
The Zoological Collection team will give visitors the opportunity to experience the diversity of nature up close during guided tours of the foam magazine and the special exhibition. A sounding biodiversity wall becomes a living stage for the diversity of our native fauna and flora. Children can have their faces painted, draw animals or observe insects under a microscope. The team will also be offering interested visitors exclusive insights into the collection: rarely exhibited objects such as bird nests, bird eggs, confiscated customs specimens and modern research equipment will be on display. The day will be rounded off with a ceremony from 6 to 7 p.m. in the university auditorium. This will be followed by the ceremonial opening of the newly designed "Africa" themed room with a special new specimen, which will be presented to the public for the first time.
The University of Rostock cordially invites all interested parties to rediscover the traditional collection on this anniversary day.
