The Mutiny off Rügen – What Really Happened on the MS Seaside Resort Binz in 1961?
Reading on the 1961 Trial Against the “Junge Gemeinde”
This time, Hellmuth Henneberg presents a chapter of German history that is certainly not one of its proudest moments: the 1961 trial against members of the Junge Gemeinde in Rostock. Hellmuth Henneberg published the results of his research on this topic in a book in 2002. The events of a day trip were classified as a mutiny, and the Stasi’s report on the incident led to a swift trial with devastating verdicts. This took place days after the Berlin Wall was built, in the midst of the Cold War.
