Jens Syllwasschy has been playing guitar for as long as he can remember—and actually even before that. Music was never just a side activity, but always a compass, a driving force, and a tailwind. Shaped from an early age by a wide variety of sounds, styles, and trends, he continues to draw inspiration from the full spectrum of what music can be—and what it can still become.
Instead of clinging to genre boundaries, Jens has made it his mission to create his own lyrics and melodies. Music shouldn’t be copied, but enriched. That’s exactly what gives rise to his songs: honest, edgy, poetic, sometimes offbeat, often tongue-in-cheek—always with his own distinctive style.
This approach has long left its mark. Several recordings have already been released, most recently the albums “Auf Pappe” (2021 / 2022) on CD and vinyl. Jens is now following up with “Das Beste bis jetzt”—a double vinyl album that is also available on CD upon request. These are works into which a great deal of effort, passion, and ups and downs have been poured—and they demonstrate just how much Jens has grown into his craft.
He never stands still: Jens is currently working on a new EP titled “quattuor tempora”—the four seasons. A musical exploration of change, moods, and the cycles of life—sometimes as rough as an autumn storm, sometimes as light as a summer breeze, sometimes as contemplative as winter, and then blossoming again like spring.
On his own, but never lonely: Over the years, a steadily growing team has gathered around him—his companions. Different musicians, different instruments, a shared vision. Depending on the concert, they come aboard together and turn every performance into a journey of its own.
The music of Jens Syllwasschy & Kumpanen deliberately defies categorization. On stage, a vibrant blend of diverse genres takes shape—without dogma, without a safety net or a backup plan. The Kumpanen call it themselves: subcultural “Jensian” lyrics set to music.
And then there’s the captain himself: Jens Syllwasschy is entertainment personified. With charm, humor, and a good dash of sailor’s tall tales, he guides the audience through the evening. Fun is the top priority—for the band, for the audience, and for everyone who wants to go with the flow.
