"JAZZATAX"

On Sunday, September 27,2026, at 5:00 p.m., the Friends of the Church in Kirch Stück e.V. will host a concert featuring the “JAZZATAX” choir from the ATARAXIA Cultural School, conducted by Michaela Geisler.

The concert will take place in the “” of St. Georg Church in Kirch Stück, located at An der Chaussee 2, 19069 Kirch Stück.

As a jazz choir, “JAZZATAX” has been singing and swinging in Schwerin and the surrounding area since 1992. Of course, “JAZZATAX” doesn’t intend to launch an attack on jazz itself, but rather to use jazz to blow—or rather, sing—an attack against the dull monotony of radio programming. But the program isn’t limited to jazz standards: it incorporates musical influences from blues, gospel, country, and rock, as well as from Latin America and Africa. The singers don’t shy away from interesting pop interludes either.

The concert program is a treat for both the ears and the eyes, as the mostly rhythmically driven songs are brought to life through body percussion, choreographed segments, and dance moves.

In their weekly rehearsals, the group—consisting of an average of 25 singers—prepares for about 8 concerts a year. They feel just as at home in churches as they do in concert halls or on open-air stages.

Highlights in the choir’s history include performances of a musical and film score project with the “AMMO” orchestra; a big band choir project with “AtaXoundZ,” concerts as part of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Music Summer, several concerts in Berlin, participation in the traditional Night of the Choirs at Schwerin Cathedral, the Stadtwerke Schwerin choir contest, and concert tours to Denmark.

Everyone is warmly invited! Admission is free; at the end of the event, we will collect donations to cover the costs of the event and to fund construction projects in and around St. George’s Church in Kirch Stück.
