Kinetic sculptures and objects
Rostock-based artist Jakob Grosse-Ophoff works in the fields of painting, illustration and, above all, kinetic sculpture. After graduating in mechanical engineering in 2019, he shifted his focus entirely to art.
His technical training shapes his moving objects, in which motors, cranks and belts trace human gestures. These sculptures are not mere gimmicks, but a serious exploration of the body, mechanics and movement.
Humor, irritation and a keen sense of materiality and rhythm characterize his works. They move in the field of tension between art and technology and reflect the ambivalence between man and machine.
