The MÜTHER theme week focuses on the master builder Ulrich Müther (1934-2007) from Binz, who would have been 90 years old on 21 July 1934. An excellent occasion to honour his person and his work.
To mark the opening of the HYPARFORUM, the theater production “MENSCH MÜTHER! Eine BeTONcollage” will be performed this evening. The play premiered in 2024 to celebrate Ulrich Müther’s 90th birthday and has been delighting audiences ever since.
Combining theater, music, and history, the production offers new insights into the life and work of the Binz-based shell architect and brings the exhibition’s themes to life on stage.
Who was Ulrich Müther? What remains of his work and his artistic legacy? His futuristic structures and the famous hyperbolic shells remain to this day a symbol of an extraordinary fusion of engineering, a spirit of experimentation, and creative vision. The “BeTONcollage”
explores Müther’s work and vision through anecdotes, historical facts, and dramatic moments. The result is a portrait of a master builder caught between two systems, whose ideas transcended boundaries and continue to fascinate to this day.

The annual MÜTHER WEEK centers on the Binz-based architect Ulrich Müther (1934–2007). Various events pay tribute to his life and work. He is considered THE specialist in hyper-shell structures. His spectacular buildings are architectural gems of East German Modernism. One of the best-known examples is the Müther Tower at Beach Access 6.
