Guest Performance by the Partner Region of Anhui
Special Huangmei Opera Performance by Hefei and Anqing Universities
To mark the tenth anniversary of the Confucius Institute in Stralsund, we cordially invite you to this special guest performance, which aims to shed light on an interesting aspect of Chinese culture.
Huangmei Opera originated in Anqing in Hubei Province and was born amidst the picturesque landscapes of this region. With a history spanning over two hundred years—the origins of Huangmei Opera can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty (618–907)—this opera form ranks among the five most important opera forms in China, alongside Peking Opera, Yueju Opera, Pingju opera, and Yuju opera. Its vocal style is fresh and graceful, simple and full of vitality. Easy to understand and free of complicated, inaccessible melodies, it resembles a refreshing mountain breeze or the clear flow of streams through the fields. It reflects the gentle poetry of the Jiangnan region, while at the same time embodying the deep, genuine emotions of people’s everyday lives.
Experience excerpts from the most famous Huangmai opera, “The Female Prince Consort” (Nü Fuma).
