How democratic engagement can improve nature.
Film and discussion with Michael Succow, Markus Meckel and Heiko Miraß.
Can an individual protect nature - how can democratic engagement improve society? The film "How does nature work?!" focuses on these questions. It tells the extraordinary story of the life and work of biologist Michael Succow, who made nature conservation history.
During the political upheaval of 1989/90, Succow became the key figure in an unprecedented nature conservation project that placed 4.5 percent of the GDR's land under nature conservation, including on Jasmund and in the Bodden landscape outside Pomerania. Succow later promoted nature conservation worldwide and was awarded the Alternative Nobel Prize in 1997. The film portrays people who were inspired by Succow and are now working for a healthy environment.
In the film discussion, our guests will discuss, among other things, the extent to which the awakening and willingness to change of the 1989/90 reunification period can serve as a model for today's challenges.
