With "Resonances", pianist Harald Sumik dedicates his current solo program to one of the most influential musical personalities of the 20th century: Keith Jarrett - the master of spontaneous piano art, cross-genre virtuoso and pioneer of free improvisation.
"Inspired by Jarrett's unique ability to create melodies and harmonies in the moment, I want to take the audience on a journey into the diversity and liveliness of improvisation," says Sumik, describing his artistic approach. With great sensitivity, he takes up motifs from Jarrett's work, weaves them into his own soundscapes and at the same time revives the spirit of the legendary "Köln Concert" - the iconic work that Jarrett performed at the Cologne Opera on January 24, 1975. With over four million records sold, the "Köln Concert" became the world's most successful jazz solo album in music history and is still considered a milestone in improvised piano music today.
The musical homage will be accompanied by Alexa Jünkering. She paints a vivid picture of Keith Jarrett's life and work with sensitive stories. She draws on memories of the artist, quotes from interviews and reports by contemporary witnesses and thus lends the evening a special narrative depth. Every moment in Sumik's "Resonances" is a tribute to the emotional intensity that makes Jarrett's music everlasting - and at the same time an invitation to rediscover the magic of improvisation
