What a fright: Tom has a green ghost in the cellar! The slimy Hugo is a MUG, a moderately scary ghost, and Tom soon realizes that Hugo is completely harmless but urgently needs help. Hugo can't go back to his haunted mansion because a dangerous UEG, a prehistoric ice ghost, has taken up residence there and is spreading arctic cold throughout the town in midsummer. Tom and Hugo turn to the professional ghost hunter Hedwig Kümmelsaft. Hedwig shows them the basics of ghost hunting and the three of them become an unusual team: only through friendship, courage and self-confidence can they overcome their enemies and save the town from the UEG.
