After two years of renovation and redesign, the outdoor area is now complete. New reconstructions and information system as well as the audio guide are presented.

After two years of remodeling and redesigning our reconstructed border installation on the outdoor area, we want to open the newly designed outdoor area to the public on March 28 at 2:00 pm . We cordially invite all companies involved in the project, sponsors and interested parties to attend.

The redesign of the outdoor area consisted of two differently funded projects. The renovation and redesign of the outdoor area was primarily funded by the European Union, the Federal Foundation for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship and the LpB Mecklenburg-Vorpommern under the title "Walkable Border History". As a result, not only was the content of the entire site enhanced with new objects and replicas, but accessibility was also improved. A new information system and an audio guide make the outdoor area much more accessible to visitors than before. In a second project, PMO and state funds were used to set up an open archive in the outdoor area. This will make it possible in future to store large objects relating to border history in an appropriate, professional and publicly accessible manner.

As a result of these two projects, it is now possible to get a much clearer picture of the GDR border demarcation and the changes to the border line between 1945 and 1989/90 in Schlagsdorf. The different perspectives of the people on the barriers and their consequences become clear, as does the military force used to prevent escape attempts from the GDR. The redesign of the outdoor area makes an important contribution to increasing the attractiveness of a visit to the Grenzhus.

The inauguration of the outdoor area will be introduced by the chairman of the supporting association, Dr. Erik Gurgsdies-Meister (Politische Memoriale e. V.), and by a greeting from the director of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Center for Political Education, Mr. Jochen Schmidt. Dr. Andreas Wagner, museum director, and Luisa Taschner, head of the educational forum at the Grenzhus, will then present the redesign and the in-depth educational offers. They thank the sponsors and companies involved. Guests at the inauguration will be offered guided tours of the outdoor area to get an idea of the new features. The event will end with coffee and cake at Café Grenzstein.
