Anders Thomas Jensen shows his penchant for macabre humor this time with Mads Mikkelsen and Nikolaj Lie Kaas as a pair of dissimilar brothers.
GOURMET & FILM
It's not always possible to find a current movie on the subject of cuisine and food. Since we couldn't remember Scandinavian cuisine playing a role in our series in recent years, we decided on a Danish-Swedish film in which there is no cooking, but otherwise a lot happens.
Denmark / Sweden 2025, Director: Anders Thomas Jensen, Length: 116 minutes, FSK 16
DA: Mads Mikkelsen, Nikolaj Kaas, Sofie Grabol, Lars Brygmann a.o.
In Jensen's film, Mikkelsen is not the shining hero or villain for once, but plays an ugly, weak middle-aged man who is not exactly the fastest in the head. When Manfred's brother Anker returns home after 15 years in prison for a bank robbery, Manfred only wants to be called John. He thinks he is John Lennon. Anker struggles to adjust to his brother's new whim, because he wants something from him. Before his arrest, he had handed over his share of the stolen loot to Manfred, who was supposed to hide it. But Manfred can't remember where he buried it. But Jensen has much more in store for his film than the gangster and brother story. Manfred's psychiatrist joins the team and wants to reunite the Beatles, another hospital inmate thinks he is both Paul and Ringo, but also likes to sing ABBA songs.
