Public Evening Lecture by Dorothee Marx, M.A. (Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel, Department of North American Studies) and Discussion
People who are perceived as particularly feminine often find that their symptoms are not taken seriously in the healthcare system, that their pain is downplayed and left untreated, and that they are assumed to have primarily mental health issues. People facing multiple forms of marginalization are particularly affected by this type of epistemic injustice—often referred to as “medical gaslighting” —and are increasingly drawing public attention to this issue. To what extent do contemporary autobiographical comic book narratives address this issue? This lecture, followed by a discussion, will address this question.
Dorothee Marx is a research assistant at the Chair of North American Studies at Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel.
In this year’s Gender Dialog, Dorothee Marx, M.A., together with Dr. phil.
