The Kompass Galerie is opening in Schwerin—a new venue for art and culture in the State capital Schwerin
The “Kompass Galerie” will open its doors on October 24 at 5:00 p.m. at Goethestraße 15 in Schwerin. The exhibition spaces are known as the former headquarters of the Professional Association of Visual Artists of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (BBK-MV). Members of the association have been presenting their work here for more than five years. Now, Peter Scherrer will showcase works primarily by artists from the Northeast, the North, and the Baltic Sea region. The art space is fundamentally boundless in terms of both theme and geography. Chamber music concerts, as well as readings, film screenings, and lectures, are also in the works. The gallery’s office space is also used to operate the“Kulturkompass-MV.de”website. Interviews and podcasts are produced in a small “kitchen studio.” As part of Schwerin’s Culture Night, this new venue for art and culture will present, in its first exhibition, works by the Greifswald painter Felix Jess, who is known for his expressive and vibrantly colored paintings. The exhibition, titled “SECOND EXPEDITION: Expanded Perspectives,” will be on view through December 22, 2026.
