Fritz Reuter Festival 2026 in the Reuter town of Stavenhagen
The Fritz Reuter Festival has been an established brand in the cultural life of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern since 1960. They originated with the project "Puchow, a village plays Fritz Reuter". More than twenty thousand visitors followed the unhappy love story of Johann and Mariken. Adapted for the stage, the verse epic by Fritz Reuter, the founder of the Low German literary language and performed by amateur actors, became a real crowd-puller. Since then, the festival has undergone a long development in its artistic interpretation. They have always been an integral part of the cultural life of the region, the Reuterstadt Stavenhagen of the federal state.
The relaunch of the project, now under the motto "A town plays Fritz Reuter", took place for the Fritz Reuter anniversary year 2024. "Kein Hüsung" was performed again in the High German version, supplemented by a Low German narrative bracket. Once again, the play is performed exclusively by amateur actors of all ages under the artistic direction of Lutz Trautmann.
The Fritz Reuter Festival is part of the new Reuter reception, which uses new means and projects to bring Reuter's literary work to life for extended target groups.
The second part of the stage play "Ut de Franzosentid" will continue in 2026. The Fritz Reuter Festival will then take place from June 26 to 28, 2026 in the Reuterstadt Stavenhagen.
Under the motto "Language meets sound - Reuter musically", we are organizing a three-day festival that brings literature, theater and especially music into a creative dialogue.
