Powerful corporations and scientific institutions are driving these developments forward; their promises are immense and have long been part of our everyday lives.
Artificial intelligence and advances in biotechnology fuel the vision of a world without suffering and of a “New Human” who overcomes their limitations—happy, intelligent, healthy, perhaps even immortal. The increasingly popular philosophy of transhumanism promises a happiness that could be achieved technologically in the near future.
Yet the more this technological progress permeates our lives, the more urgent the question becomes: what view of humanity underlies these hopes?
