New "Folk 'n' Shanty Fest" celebrates its premiere on June 20, 2026 at Doberaner Platz in Rostock.
On Saturday, June 20, 2026, a whiff of harbour, wanderlust and the sound of the sea will fill the heart of Rostock's city center. At the first "Folk 'n' Shanty Fest", Doberaner Platz will become the backdrop for maritime music, North German joie de vivre and handmade folk music. From 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., visitors can enjoy a free open-air program with regional artists, shanties and Celtic sounds in the open air. The event is organized by the Hanse Sail Rostock office.
An open-air stage, a beer garden area and catering and sanitary facilities are planned directly on Doberaner Platz. The program will be hosted by Wolfgang Fiedler. The aim is to bring music, maritime culture and social interaction to the heart of the city. Performers include Die Breitlings, Bad Penny, Olaf Hobrlant, the Rostock shanty choir "Luv un Lee" and The Sally Gardens.
The "Folk 'n' Shanty Fest" is aimed at music lovers of all generations as well as guests of the Hanseatic and University City of Rostock and is intended to turn Doberaner Platz into a lively meeting place for maritime culture for a day.
