Serbia is defined by water. The great rivers carry water into the country, creating a unique habitat with diverse ecosystems. The Iron Gate is Europe’s largest river-cliff landscape. The dense forests of the Tara are among the last refuges of the brown bear in the Balkans. The bearded vulture was once thought to be extinct. Today, one of Europe’s largest birds of prey has returned to the steep cliffs.
