Celebration of Diversity at Domjüch: Young People and Artists Showcase Creative Ways of Remembering. Hands-on Activities, 100 Candles of Remembrance

How should we commemorate today those who were marginalized, persecuted, and murdered during the Nazi era? This question is at the heart of the Festival of Diversity—an afternoon that combines historical remembrance with creative engagement, interaction, and participation.

Young people from the region have worked together with artists to explore the history of Domjüch and develop contemporary forms of remembrance. Their works will be presented at the festival and invite visitors to reflect, participate, and exchange ideas.

Eighty-five years ago, on July 11, 1941, 100 patients from what was then the Domjüch State Mental Hospital were deported to the Bernburg extermination center and murdered. They will be remembered with 100 candles—all visitors are invited to participate and together send a visible message of human dignity, diversity, and social responsibility.

The program includes artist talks, exhibitions, rap and poetry, ceramic art, media projects, “postcards to the future,” including short films and music videos, as well as a variety of hands-on activities for children and adults. The event concludes with the interactive playback theater performance “Blickzurücknachvorn.” Food and drinks will be provided.
