For many years, they remained in the background—the female painters of the Ahrenshoop artists’ colony. The collection exhibition dedicated to them highlights how differently these women’s lives unfolded and what obstacles they had to face around 1900. The exhibition tells the story of their talent, their perseverance, and their struggle for visibility. Caught between family expectations, social constraints, and artistic ambitions, numerous talents were nearly lost—and yet these female artists have left a lasting mark. The exhibition at the Kunstmuseum is being organized in close collaboration with the Künstlerhaus Lukas and the Neues Kunsthaus Ahrenshoop.
