Ensemble CANTICUM
Who doesn't know the love texts from the Song of Solomon? Spurned by the clergy, loved by composers for their vivid language, these passages from the Bible often formed the textual basis for wedding compositions. These were particularly popular in the rich trading towns on the Baltic Sea around 1600 and provided the composers living there with a welcome source of extra income. With vocal soloists and historical instruments, the European Hanseatic Ensemble presents works from Rostock, Stralsund, Szczecin, Gdansk and Königsberg.
