Film screening and discussion on March 17, 2026 in Rostock

The fictional story is based on historical events: Two teenagers, Kathrin and Ralf, plan a daring escape across the Baltic Sea. They are tracked down and become the target of the Stasi and the Coastal Border Brigade. Kathrin sacrifices herself and stops the border guards, allowing Ralf to escape.

The 30-minute short film was produced by the hobby film team "Mr. Movie Production" from Bad Doberan, consisting of young actresses and actors as well as film and technology enthusiasts. A cooperation with the documentation and memorial site in the former pre-trial detention center of the State Security in Rostock.

The film sheds light on the emotional and historical significance of these personal stories and offers an insight into a moving piece of contemporary Baltic Sea history. The film's locations are located around Bad Doberan and Rostock. The props and costumes were organized by the young people themselves and modified for the corresponding roles and scenes.

The film will be followed by a discussion with director Justin Metelmann and Dr. Volker Höffer, historian and head of the Stasi Records Archive in Rostock. Dr. Steffi Brüning, Director of the Rostock Documentation and Memorial Centre, will moderate the discussion.

The event is part of the exhibition "Fluid Border" by Marie Jeschke.
