An exchange about the moving time between fall 1989 and spring 1990 over coffee and cake
To mark the first nationwide "Democracy History Day", the Neustrelitz Stasi Prison Töpferstraße e.V. memorial site is organizing an open storytelling café in cooperation with the Neustrelitz multi-generation house on Friday, 20 March 2026 at 3.30 pm in the Neustrelitz Borwinheim (Bruchstraße 15). Over coffee and cake, the aim is to talk about the turbulent period between fall 1989 and spring 1990 and also discuss new challenges for democracy.
Christoph de Boor, pioneer of the peaceful revolution in Waren, and Ingrid Sievers, Neustrelitz resident and local politician from the very beginning, will talk about their experiences. All citizens are then invited to share their own memories. How did you experience this time? We ask all participants to bring a photo or object that you associate with this time.
The storytelling café will take place in the Borwinheim, which is itself a central place in the history of democracy. It was here that the Neustrelitz chapter of the Democratic Awakening was founded on January 25, 1990.
Admission to the event is free. Coffee and cake cost €1.50. To ensure that there is enough cake, it is helpful to register in advance:
