A fusion of Asian and Western cultures united by a shared passion for cross-genre music.
The stage setup of Duo Pertar, with all its many different instruments, actually suggests a larger ensemble: a marimba the size of a grand piano and a vibraphone form the framework, with a Chinese bass drum in the center alongside several different guitars. Added to this are smaller drums such as the snare drum, djembe, and darbuka. And last but not least, two unusual instruments that audiences rarely get to see: a Chinese moon lute alongside a Chinese hammered dulcimer, which is very similar to the cimbalom. DUO PERTAR The music is as diverse as the instrumentation. With each new instrumental combination, the musical direction shifts as well.
In Duo Pertar, Asian and Western cultures merge through a shared passion for genre-spanning music. The Chinese big drum gives way to South American dances and tangos, while spirited marimba tones blend with warm jazz guitar sounds to form a harmonious whole, painting exotic collages ranging from Balinese landscapes to cinematic original compositions. In addition to their concert tours, which have taken them to China, Thailand, Scotland, and Canada, the Duo Pertar is also deeply involved in various children’s concert programs, which they perform not only at various festivals but also numerous times each year at schools in Hamburg.
