For 36 years, the country has been developing within a framework of democratic normality and has been able to realize its potential through peaceful means. As a result, Poland has become increasingly attractive as a travel destination, a business location, and a place to live. What does this development mean for the relationship between Poland and Germany? The ties between the two countries have long gone beyond the question of good neighborly relations. In light of current geopolitical challenges, what matters most is understanding one another better, taking different perspectives seriously, and strengthening mutual respect. The German-Polish writer and essayist Artur Becker has been exploring issues of identity, migration, memory, and cultural exchange between Poland and Germany for many years. In his 14th German-Polish Lecture as part of the polenmARkT, he invites us to question familiar viewpoints and discover new perspectives on the multifaceted relations between the two countries.
Artur Becker, born in 1968 in Bartoszyce (Poland) and living in Germany since 1985, is one of the most influential German-language authors with Polish roots. As a writer and essayist, he has been exploring the themes of identity, migration, memory, and cultural exchange between Poland and Germany for many years. His lecture invites the audience to question familiar perspectives and discover new ways of looking at German-Polish relations.
