Film Screening: Demmin Songs: Prologue and NightSong
Hans-Jürgen Syberberg’s film project *Demminer Gesänge* explores memory, history, and the events in Demmin in 1945. The film takes its starting point from the 1945 Demmin Book of the Dead. The names of the people who lost their lives in Demmin during the final days of the war and afterward—including those who died in the rivers as a result of mass suicide—are read aloud. The accompanying music is by Mozart and Brahms. Hans-Jürgen Syberberg edits together historical documents, photographs, images from memory, and reflections on the history of this city.
