Film Screening: Demminer Gesänge II
Hans-Jürgen Syberberg’s film project *Demminer Gesänge* explores memory, history, and the events in Demmin in 1945. The film takes as its starting point the Demmin Book of the Dead from 1945. The names of the people who lost their lives in Demmin during the final days of the war and afterward—including those who died in the rivers as a result of mass suicide—are read aloud. The accompanying music is by Mozart and Brahms. Hans-Jürgen Syberberg edits together historical documents, photographs, images from memory, and reflections on the history of this city.
