Deities of Cem Anáhuac. The civilizations of the continent now known as America developed distinct cultures—with their own art, languages, worldviews, and cuisines. They domesticated flora and fauna, even genetically modified crops such as corn, and gave rise to sciences such as astronomy and mathematics. This exhibition aims to honor the history of the indigenous peoples of the Americas. Through paintings with surrealist and contemporary elements, I seek to bring back to life the legends and stories that people have tried to erase for nearly half a millennium. Each painting depicts a deity who, through their word, describes and conjures natural phenomena—from the creation of celestial bodies to the duality revered as the creator of life.
