In early October, the red deer rut can be observed particularly well at the Mamerow red deer enclosure. From a covered hunting blind and accompanied by a knowledgeable ranger, nature lovers can experience the red deer rut firsthand.
The Mecklenburg Schweiz and Lake Kummerow Nature Park invites you to Mamerow from Thursday, October 2, through October 11, 2026, to observe the deer rut.
When the bellowing in the forest slowly dies down, that’s when the stags in the Mamerow red deer enclosure really get going. It is one of the largest enclosures in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, home to exceptionally strong stags. The expansive facility offers the red deer optimal living conditions and plenty of space.
The red deer’s impressive mating behavior is always a fascinating natural spectacle, and there’s hardly a better place to observe it than in Mamerow. So if you’d like to experience bellowing and fighting stags, this is a particularly good opportunity. A ranger from the nature park will provide interesting commentary. The observations take place from a covered raised observation platform; be sure to bring binoculars and a camera.
The meeting point is at 5:00 p.m. in 18279 Mamerow, at the town’s edge heading toward Klaber. Advance registration by phone at 0173 600 2861 is absolutely required, as only a limited number of spots are available.
