Planting a trembling poplar, the tree of the year 2026
This year, the trembling poplar is being named "Tree of the Year" to highlight its particular importance in terms of versatility and robustness. This tree species has the ability to quickly colonize bare areas and stabilize the soil. The deciduous tree species called aspen also serves as a food source for numerous butterfly species, such as the caterpillars of the poplar hawkmoth.
This year, the "Tree of the Year" will once again find its place in the "Grove of Trees" in Malchin. The planting campaign will take place one day before "Arbor Day", which is on April 25 every year. Anyone who is interested can join this planting campaign organized by the nature park's support association. Afterwards, there will be a short guided tour through the "Grove of Annual Trees".
