On 9 May 2026, the Hanseatic City of Stralsund invites you to the nationwide Urban Development Day at the new community and district center in Knieper West. Under the motto "Vibrant places, strong communities", we will show how urban development is put into practice locally.
From 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the city administration, district coordination, St. Nikolai parish, Stadterneuerungsgesellschaft Stralsund mbH and project participants will be providing information about developments in Knieper West and talking to residents. Photos, films and guided tours of the new building as well as historical reviews will show how the district is changing. Associations will present their work and the diversity of the district.
With more and more churches closing across Germany, the new community and district center is a unique socio-cultural project on this scale - a place of encouragement that unites community and encounters.
Music, hands-on activities and workshops round off the program. Pony rides, a bouncy castle and face painting are planned for children. There will be time for conversation at the end of the event with coffee and cake.
This will show how urban development creates lively places and strong communities.
