Lovingly designed puppet theater in Low German - a fairy tale classic for young and old.
The "TISCHTHEATER-CHEN" is a small mobile stage that travels wherever Low German has its home. Christine Meyer has been on the road since 2022 and has already performed her plays to hundreds of visitors. She was born in Greifswald and lives in Vorpommern. She was originally an art teacher for many years. Now she works as a graphic artist and painter and is a member of the Pomeranian Artists' Association.
The theater came about almost by chance, as the artist initially made felt puppets for a children's book. However, when all the puppets, costumes and props were finished, the desire to play with them and let them speak grew! As the "Fischer un sin Fru" sound best in Platt, the idea of the little theater was born.
To this day, the set has remained in the hands of the puppeteer and represents an important way of developing new stories. The stage set and the actors are mainly made of textile material - a special feature in this genre. One of the artist's aims is to bring local legends and fairy tales back into the spotlight. Experiencing these in a puppet theater is another rare opportunity to get closer to the language. So far, the Theaterchen has performed in museums (e.g. in the Warnemünde local history museum, in the Rungehaus Wolgast), at adult education centers, in smaller cultural units, schools with a Low German section and also privately. The language has never been an obstacle for younger visitors. But it is especially nice when grandparents and grandchildren attend the performance. In this way, even the youngest can reacquaint themselves with the sound of the old language.
"Dat Rodkäppcken"
How does the Brothers Grimm fairy tale actually begin? In this case - with a very hungry wolf. But everything else is as it should be: the girl wants to visit her grandmother and goes astray... but Mudding had warned her! And Größing has no idea of the danger she is in! The tension is at its peak - the wolf is caught! But then everything changes... Wolves are not allowed to be simply thrown down the well these days - as a protected species. Let yourself be enchanted by this old, always young fairy tale.
