Remembering and coming to terms: What does contemporary remembrance mean?
with Max Czollek (author) and Thomas Werner (Rostock Cultural Office)
Moderation: Ulrika Rinke (Literaturhaus Rostock)
"Everything back to the beginning": In their latest book, Max Czollek and Hadija Haruna-Oelker put Germany's self-image as the world champion of reappraisal to the test. Has the German culture of remembrance failed when right-wing populists win elections, right-wing extremist crimes are insufficiently investigated and "Never again is now" degenerates into a phrase?
With his books and essays (including "Versöhnungstheater", 2023), Max Czollek is considered an important voice against anti-Semitism, racism and discrimination of all kinds and for a pluralistic culture of remembrance. He is co-editor of the magazine "Jalta - Positionen zur jüdischen Gegenwart". Together with Hadija Haruna-Oelker, he hosts the remembrance podcast "Trauer & Turnschuh".
