The Body as Resistance
Susanne Ring’s figures are not idealized bodies. They are fragmented, distorted, open at the edges, and precisely because of this, they possess a powerful presence. The exhibition title “Revolt of the Physical” articulates what is happening in these works: The body eludes the norm, the smooth image, and unambiguous categorization. It asserts itself as something distinct, vulnerable, and resistant all at once.
