Silent movie - comedy set to live music by the duo Salon Pernod

The Tramp is wrongly suspected of pickpocketing and chased by the police. While on the run, he bursts into a circus performance and unintentionally makes the audience laugh. The circus director then wants to hire him as a clown. But the director doesn't think he's any good as a clown. Because the Tramp never does what he is supposed to and can't be funny on command, he is only employed as a prop man. Due to the mishaps that happen to him, the clumsy tramp quickly becomes the circus's main attraction - without even realizing it. Meanwhile, he has fallen in love with the trick rider Merna and dreams of a future together. But then a tightrope walker appears... The audience laughs and suffers along - with every image and every sound.
