Every September and October, the Barther Bodden serves as a stopover for one of Europe’s largest crane migrations—up to 80,000 birds rest here on their way south. Aboard the MS “Seeheilbad Zingst,” you’ll set out from Barth Harbor and head straight into the heart of the action, passing the Sundische Wiese on your way to Pramort.
On board, a crane expert will guide you through the tour with live commentary and explain what you see along the water: migration patterns, choice of resting spots, and the role of the Bodden landscape as a refueling station for the long flight south. The experience is complemented by a film screening on a large screen and flat-screen TV, and binoculars are available free of charge on board.
The trip lasts about four hours and runs from September 14 to October 16, 2026, every Monday and Friday, departing at 5:00 p.m. from Barth. Adults pay 32 euros, children 12 and under pay 22 euros, and dogs can come along for 5 euros. Tickets are available online through the Poschke shipping company; experience has shown that seats sell out quickly during crane season.
