Contact Improvisation at Circus Fantasia: Dance Born of the Moment
Unlike in other dance styles, here we don’t learn specific movements or steps; instead, we explore various principles that can underlie dance. In doing so, we expand our possibilities and our vocabulary: the dance gains lightness, intensity, and flow.
These principles help us understand one another through dance, respond to each other in increasingly nuanced ways, and ultimately immerse ourselves in a shared resonance with others. Although there are no set roles for leader or follower in Contact Improvisation, this approach fosters a harmonious, sensitive dialogue between bodies that follow their own inner impulses.
