The guitarist and singer of Czech descent, Robert Blank, learned his craft from the bottom up.
Born near Frankfurt am Main in 1975, the guitarist and singer of Czech descent, Robert Blank, learned his craft from the ground up. As a teenager, equipped with a drum computer and an old cassette recorder, Robert Carl Blank began to create his own playbacks. At 16, he practiced as musical director for various band projects and demonstrated sensitivity in arranging and interpreting songs he had written himself. A little later, emotionally impressed by the music of Frank Zappa, the eager young artist experimented with digital sound sources (now in his own home studio) and wrote his first fully arranged songs during this time.
After a year abroad in England, Robert Carl Blank started playing in various rock and pop bands in the Rhine-Main region in 1996.
However, it was not in Germany, but in the USA that Blank received his deep musical foundations. After an internship in Chicago, he accompanied old blues master Carl Weathersby on his tour as a guitarist for six weeks. Weathersby immediately inspired Robert, partly because of his philosophy of life "it's all about how many bars you can swing". This ambiguous credo (bars = pubs or even bars) complemented other guiding principles such as "since you only got one life you might as well have a good one".
After completing his studies in political science and American studies at the University of Frankfurt, Robert spent almost a year and a half in Australia, where his musical skills were put to the test for the first time and where he had to show for the first time that he could also make himself heard internationally as a solo artist.
After returning from Australia, he continued his steps towards a full singer/songwriter career in his native Germany and released his first album "Steps" on his own in September 2003. He also made it to the final of the "PRINZ Talent Competition" that year.
.
At the beginning of 2012, the tireless artist recorded his third album "Rooms for Giants" (Mokoh Music, 2015) in Hamburg, which indicated a change of direction. The 12 songs are rockier, poppier and faster to the point.
On the follow-up "Fairground Distractions" (SPV, 2016), the love for the Beatles' late phase is unmistakable, and Robert Carl Blank shows not only great songs but also a huge talent for arrangement and production.
In recent years, however, the constantly touring artist has returned to his original sound, and his fifth and first self-produced studio album "The Poet" (7us Media, 2019) delivers mostly acoustic and folky songs, garnished with delicate to bitter-sweet string arrangements.
Since 2016, Blank has also been developing as a coach for songwriting and lyrics in order to pass on the experience he has gained over all these years of writing in courses and individual coaching sessions. Since 2019, he has also been producing songs and albums for other artists in his still young production facility "Songwerft" and in 2021 he completed further training as a mixing & mastering engineer (Mastering Academy, Friedemann Tischmeyer) to further support his tireless creativity in terms of craftsmanship.
Since 2022 Robert has been working on his first German-language album "ungefähr genau hier", which will be released in April 2024.
