"Musical journey through time - music from Minnesang to Mozart"
This concert project, guest performance program of the ensemble for 2026, "Musical Time Travel - Music from Minnesang to Mozart" is dedicated to music from the Middle Ages to the end of the 18th century. The performers Marion Ebert, Antje Schnell, Dr. Grit Nonnemann, Hartmuth Juch and Steffen Böhme will present rarely heard works by renowned European composers. The musicians are deliberately focusing on the theme of Minnesang from the High Middle Ages. The occasion is the 700th anniversary of the death of the only surviving minstrel in the Baltic region, Wizlaw III of Rügen, the last ruler of the principality and feudal lord of the Danish king. They carefully attempt to project some of Wizlaw's songs from the Jena song manuscript from the early 14th century, historically adapted as Middle High German chant poetry, into the 21st century in a musically and sonically convincing way.
In this approximately 100-minute moderated program, both popular and very rarely performed rarities of music history will be played on historical musical instruments that are only occasionally heard. The interested audience can look forward to the performance of the gemshorn, Hümmelchen, lute and the keyed fiddle, Swedish nyckelharpa or Italian viola d'amore a cheri. Viola d'amore a chiavi.
In addition to the songs of Wizlaw III, there will be compositions by W.v.d. Vogelweide, H. Isaac, F. Couperin, Playford, T. Morley, G.P. Telemann and of course W.A. Mozart.
